Talks and events

Increasing knowledge and understanding of children, young people and the public in general about issues relating to refugees and asylum seekers is one of our charitable aims. Sherborne Area Refugee Support can provide speakers for schools and community groups, and runs events to raise awareness.

Those who have benefited so far from our outreach work include pupils at Abbey Primary School, who were given a powerful presentation by our partner organisation ‘From Syria with Love’. They learnt about Syria and its history, some of the reasons behind the war, and about the lives of children in refugee camps. At the end of the session they were also aware of some of the ways of helping refugees.

We also hold awareness-raising events where we have invited guest speakers and performers to Sherborne, including Gulwali Passarlay (pictured) who has spoken about his experiences as a child refugee coming to the UK from Afghanistan.

If you would to have a speaker at your school or organisation, please contact us with details of your request.
