Volunteer with the Syrian Resettlement Programme

We work in partnership with Dorset Council which provides opportunities for volunteers to help promote the independence and integration of refugee families in Dorset. There are two main types of volunteering role in the Sherborne area. Settlement volunteers (befrienders) provide support to families and individuals, especially during their first few months, to help them settle into the area, for example by walking with them to the local school and shops, explaining bus timetables and helping them access local services like libraries and swimming pools. Volunteers are also needed for ESOL (English for Speakers of Other Languages) support, which refugees receive alongside more formal teaching. All volunteers need to have DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service) checks which are organised by the Volunteer Centre in Dorchester.
